🔎 How do I know what I have?

Not all EP8s are created equal!

Example:

• Both the older EP800 (DU-EP800) engine and the new EP801 both have the "marketing name" EP8

  • The imprint "EP8" on the engine says nothing about the type!

Visually, the engines look very similar, at least from the outside.

EP600/801:

• latest generation

• 4 screw terminals (LIGHT + ACC port)

• 3x DI2 ports, 1x speed sensor

• Connector technology: EW-SD300 (thinner than Steps)
  

EP800:

• Predecessor of EP801/600

• 2 screw terminals (LIGHT port)

• 2x DI2 ports, 1x speed sensor

• Connector technology: EW-SD300 (thinner than Steps)

STEPS Exxx:

• Predecessor of EP800

• 2 screw terminals (LIGHT port)

• 2x DI2 ports, 1x speed sensor (connections point upwards)

• Connector technology: EW-SD300 (thinner than Steps)

⚙️ Differences between EP600 / EP801 (tuning product identical for both)

Both belong to the current Shimano generation, but differ in:

👉 The EP801 is therefore not radically different from the EP600 , but it is technically more modern, lighter and has a higher maximum power output.
